On April 22 each year, communities across the world come together in support of the protection of the environment. As this year marks the 25th anniversary of Earth Day, our gostrive team has some essential tips for you to your part and help protect the earth!
There are several things that you can do in the comfort of your home to conserve energy. Properly choosing the location of your home, for example. By living where you work and leaving your car at home twice a week, you can easily cut greenhouse gas emissions by 1,600 pounds each year! Then, continue to save energy within your home by adjusting your thermostats and light fixtures. By simply increasing your Thermostat by a single degree in summer months and decreasing by a single degree in winter months, as well as changing a single incandescent light bulb to a compact fluorescent, homeowners can save up to 10 percent on their energy consumption and light up to 3 million homes throughout the world!
Condensing water use cannot only be done in a number of ways, but it also provides great benefits for the earth. For example, a four-minute shower utilizes approximately 20 to 40 gallons of water. By reducing your time in the shower by a minute, water usage can be reduced by anywhere from 5 to 10 gallons! Turning off your faucet when performing tasks such as brushing your teeth, washing dishes and cutting vegetables can also reduce water usage dramatically. Finally, it is important to check all faucets and pipes throughout your home. A small leak from a warn pipe can waste up to 20 gallons of water per day, and larger leaks can double or even triple the water loss!
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Here at gostrive, our entire team supports living an innovative and sustainable lifestyle. By cutting down the amount of waist that we throw away, we are contributing to the protection of the environment. The best way to manage waste in the environment is to not produce it. Choices like not buying over packaged goods or avoiding disposable goods reduces the amount of waste placed into the environment. When you are forced to buy products that contain extra materials, it is also efficient to reuse them. For some products, reusing for the same purpose is simple. For example, you can reuse plastic or paper bags for other occasions. Other products require a higher amount of creativity. Create a lunchbox out of a coffer can, make a new pair of shorts out of worn jeans or reuse microwavable dinner trays for picnic trays, the possibilities are endless. However, when a product is unable to be reused, it is very important to properly recycle. Contact your local collection centers to see what materials they accept and begin to save those products. You can also give back to the environment by purchasing products that are made out of recycled materials. The possibilities are truly endless!
